Kiwi 'Weiki F' (Actinidia arguta 'Weiki F') is a fast-growing and prolific female climber that grows to a height of 8-10 metres. It needs a male form of the same species as the pollinator to produce a crop. This variety is known for its hardiness down to -30 °C, which makes it suitable for growing in colder areas.
The plant flowers in June and needs a frost-free period of 150 days for successful fruiting. The fruit ripens in October and is oval-shaped and approximately 3 cm long. They are green with a reddish-brown blossom and can be eaten with the skin on. If harvested while still hard and unripe, they can ripen at room temperature if placed in a bag with ethylene-producing fruit (e.g. apples).
Kiwifruit 'Weiki F' starts fruiting in the 3rd-4th year after planting. In addition to the fruit, its decorative foliage is attractive - the leaves are dark green, slightly glossy with red petioles, giving the plant an aesthetic appearance.
This vigorously growing liana requires a stable support, so it is suitable for planting in arbors, pergolas, net fences or wire structures. It thrives best in a sunny and sheltered location with fertile, well-drained and slightly moist soil.
Proper pruning is key to healthy growth and a bountiful harvest. The best time to prune is late autumn or winter, the dormant season. Alternatively, pruning can be done in summer when the stems have already partially lignified and thickened. If the plant is cut incorrectly or at the wrong time, 'sap bleeding' can occur, which can weaken the plant.
Kiwi 'Weiki F' is a vigorous and hardy variety that offers not only tasty fruit but also a decorative appearance. Its hardiness and low maintenance make it suitable for both horticultural and commercial cultivation. If you are looking for a fast-growing and reliable mini kiwifruit variety, 'Weiki F' is a great choice.
