Kiwi 'Rogów' (Actinidia arguta 'Rogów') is a Polish prolific female mini-kiwifruit cultivar selected in the arboretum of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) in Rogów. This hardy and robust climber is one of the reliable and productive varieties, making it an ideal choice for home gardens and commercial growing.
Its oval berries average 3 cm long and 2 cm wide, have an edible smooth skin and a rich, sweet flavour. The fruit ripens in late September to October and can be eaten directly from the tree without peeling. The 'Rogów' kiwifruit starts fruiting in the 3rd or 4th year after planting and needs a male plant of the same species as, for example, Actinidia arguta 'Weiki M' for successful pollination.
Kiwi 'Rogów' prefers a warm, sunny and sheltered location where there will be enough light to ensure a bountiful harvest.
A fertile, moist but well-drained soil that prevents root waterlogging is ideal. Slightly acidic soil promotes healthy growth.
The branching stems make the plant well supported on arbours, pergolas, wire fences or wires stretched between poles. It is also a great choice as a living green fence.
As it is a female plant, it needs a male pollinator to produce a crop - the male form 'Weiki M' is the best choice.
The plant is able to withstand temperatures as low as -28 °C, allowing it to be grown even in areas with cold winters.
Kiwi 'Rogów' is a reliable and high-yielding mini kiwifruit variety that produces a bountiful crop of sweet and juicy fruits. Its hardiness, ease of care and versatility make it an ideal choice for those who want to grow exotic fruit in their garden. Whether you use it as an ornamental climbing plant or for the production of tasty fruit, the 'Rogów' kiwi will not disappoint.
