Pervenets (Cornus mas L.) is a hardy variety of dogwood, bred from seeds obtained from open pollination in 1963 and selected in 1972. This tree has a compact, spherical habit, a dense and spreading crown, is frost-resistant and produces reliably in the long term.
The fruits are oval-pear-shaped, uniform and medium-sized, weighing 4,7-6,6 g. When fully ripe, they are dark red to black in colour and have a shiny, firm but thin skin. The flesh is dark red, juicy and tender, and the stone separates easily only when unripe. The fruit ripens in the second half of August to the first half of September.
The variety is very prolific and produces annually. A 15-year-old tree yields 25-30 kg and older trees can produce up to 40-50 kg of fruit. Regular pruning promotes larger fruit and healthy tree growth.
The fruit has a balanced sour-sweet taste and contains vitamin C, anthocyanins and other beneficial substances. They are suitable for consumption fresh, but especially for processing - in jams, juices, compotes or drying.
Pervenets are a great choice for those looking for a hardy and reliable tree with high yields, quality fruit and a wide range of uses. It is ideal for gardens and larger orchards.
