The Dorée fig tree, also known as Golden Drop or Honey Drop, is a French hardy variety that produces two harvests a year and has an exceptionally sweet, delicate flavour. With its beautiful golden yellow skin and amber-pink to strawberry-red flesh, it is one of the most beautiful and delicious figs you can enjoy in our area. The fruits are large and oblong in shape, weighing on average around 100 grams from the summer harvest and 70 to 80 grams from the autumn harvest. Dorée is a self-pollinating variety, belonging to the parthenocarpic fig family, which means that it does not require pollination and the fruit forms without the presence of the Blastophaga psenes wasp. It grows moderately vigorously, the mature trees are smaller, spreading in stature and reach a height and width of 2 to 3 metres, which makes it an ideal choice for growing in containers or in smaller areas. It ripens twice a year - the first harvest starts in early July, the second comes from mid-August and lasts until October. Fruiting usually occurs in the second or third year after planting. The Dorée fig tree is well adapted to many French regions, but does best in sunny and sheltered locations. It is very resistant to diseases and pests and can withstand frosts down to -17 °C.
