'Aromaspur' is a columnar variety of cherry (Prunus cerasus) bred for compact growth, making it ideal for smaller gardens or container growing. The tree grows to a height of approximately 2 to 3 metres, retaining a narrow, columnar shape with upright branches.
It flowers in April with white, five-pointed flowers that appear in clusters of 2 to 4. 'Aromaspur' is self-pollinating, so it does not need a pollinator to produce fruit. The fruits ripen from mid-June to early July and are medium to large, spherical, approximately 2 to 2,5 cm in diameter. They have dark red skin and flesh and taste juicy, sweet and sour with a strong aroma.
This variety requires a sunny to semi-shady location and a well-drained, humic soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. It requires regular watering, especially during dry periods, but waterlogging should be avoided. Pruning is minimal and focuses primarily on maintaining the compact shape of the tree and removing damaged or crossing shoots.
The cherries of this variety are suitable for direct consumption and for processing into jams, juices, compotes and desserts. Thanks to its compact size and low maintenance, 'Aromaspur' is an ideal choice for growers with limited space, for example on terraces or balconies. This variety is available in organic quality from the producer Geers, which guarantees an organic way of growing without the use of chemical pesticides and fertilisers.
