The 'Raspberry Oberlander' is a very old variety, known since 1771, probably originating in the Netherlands. This variety is prized for its exceptional flavor and versatility, making it a favorite among gardeners and growers.
The fruits of 'Raspberry Oberland' are medium to large, spherical and cone-shaped, with pronounced ribbing at the calyx. The skin is thin, light green at harvest and almost entirely covered with a crimson blush. The flesh is white or greenish-white, often with a pink tinge under the skin. It is juicy, sweet and sour, with a distinctive aroma and a slight raspberry tinge, which gives the variety its distinctive name.
Harvesting takes place in the second half of September and the fruit is immediately ready to eat. If stored properly, they will last until January. They are ideal for direct consumption, but are also excellent for processing, such as making jams, ciders or baking.
The trees of 'Raspberry Oberlander' are initially vigorous in growth, forming spherical crowns which later become flattened with numerous overhanging branches. The trees quickly enter fruiting and produce regular and abundant crops. This variety is resistant to frost and common diseases, making it a reliable choice even in less favourable conditions.
On the M26 rootstock, which is semi-dwarf, the tree reaches a height of 2,5-3,5 metres. The M26 rootstock encourages early fruiting and high yields, but requires support during the first years of growth. This tree is suitable for growing in sandy loam soils that are reasonably moist and rich in nutrients, with a pH between 6,2 and 6,7.
For optimum results, this variety should be grown in a sunny location protected from the wind. Regular pruning helps to ensure healthy tree growth and high fruit quality. It is recommended to grow near suitable pollinators such as 'Landsberg', 'Antonovka', 'McIntosh' or 'Cox's rue' to improve yield.
The 'Raspberry Oberlandzka' apple tree on rootstock M26 is an ideal choice for gardeners and growers looking for a traditional variety with an unmistakable flavour and aroma, suitable for direct consumption and for various types of processing.
