The Schniga Schnico apple tree on the M26 rootstock is a modern variety that stands out for its attractive fruit appearance, high yield and compact growth. This combination is ideal for both intensive cultivation and smaller gardens where quality and aesthetics are a priority.
The fruit of Schniga Schnico is medium to large, with a regular spherical shape. The skin is smooth, with a yellow-green base covered with intense red to dark red colouring on most of the surface. The glossy surface of the fruit ensures its high resistance to mechanical damage.
The flesh is firm, juicy and creamy white. The flavour is sweet, harmonious and slightly aromatic, making Schniga Schnic ideal for direct consumption as well as for processing.
The M26 rootstock encourages medium vigorous growth, while the trees maintain a compact shape and are easy to shape. This combination, ensures an early onset of fruiting a regular and high yield. Trees on the M26 rootstock are ideal for intensive orchards and gardens with limited space.
Hardiness and cultivation
The Schnico apple tree is frost-resistant and shows good resistance to common diseases such as scab and powdery mildew. Proper fertilisation is required on a regular basis to maintain optimum tree health and fruit quality. Best results are in sunny areas with well-drained soil.
Fruits ripen in late September to early October. Schniga Schnico apples have excellent storage requirements. Under the right conditions, they retain their freshness, flavour and texture until March, making them ideal for both sale and long-term storage.
Schnico apples are ideal for direct consumption, making jams, juices, desserts and fruit salads. Their appearance and sweet taste make them ideal for markets and intensive cultivation.
